WELCOME TO OPAL COAST TOURS!

The Name

Back in the early '90s, Clive and Bill were strolling through Saltburn centre, when their gaze fell on a shop, in a side street going down to the sea, titled 'Opal Coast Tours'. It was no longer open and now is no longer there at all. But it seemed, at the time, an apt and poetic description for the wonderful coastal scenery of North East England.
Only later did we discover that the phrase refered to the coast of Brittany.
We trust you will agree this is a minor factual dislocation. More minor than the fact that, due to an aesthetic disagreement, there became two Opal Coast poetry projects in cyberspace:

  • The Opal Coast, Bill's
  • Opal Coast Tours, Clive's

The one you are visiting now is mine (Clive's).

On trying to find Bill's in February 2011, the link no longer worked which is why, for the moment at least, Bills cannot be accessed. I hope to put this right as soon as possible.

The Aim

Bills's aim was for a literary-visual excursion originating in Saltburn and sending out its rhyzomes North West and South East to entangle much of the beautiful Opal Coast. All the stop-off points along the cast were populated with at least on but often several pieces.

So far on my site only a few of the stops are operable - the site is 'under development', and my aims are far more self centered and I have only just returned to the project after a number of years.

And thanks for sailing with Opal Coast Tours.
