Research Overview
My research to date covers various topics:
- 1992-6, methods integration research: The integration of structured and formal methods
of software engineering: A later strand to this was the integration of safety case analysis
into the former two.
- 1998-2010, the design and analysis of video games and virtual environments in general.
- 2001-2008, the theory and analysis of virtual storytelling, using interactive media to tell stories.
- 2009 onwards, the theory, analysis and creation of eLiterature, cybertexts, ergodic literature, etc.
You can get an idea of what these entail by checking out the 'Publications' link on the left. You
can also find some online materials on this and the 'Publications' page.
The Virtual Saltburn Cliff Lift has encountered a technical problem due to progaramming language evolution and will return soon.
I also have an interest in semiotics and in particular the semiotics of new media
- interactive
digital environments: to this end I was co-organiser of the
COSIGN
series of conferences which
brought together artists, researchers and developers interested in the use of semiotics
to understand and design
new media. COSIGN 2003 took place at the University of Teesside
in September of 2003.
